A NEW PARTNERSHIP!

Kensington Healthy Inclusion Refugee Women's Group

SOLA has been commissioned to run the Women's Group for Healthy Inclusion. A Drop-In support group by and for refugee women, their children and volunteers from the local community. This is a great group that we have been working with for the past 5 years and we are really happy to work for the longer term with the ladies.

All sorts of activities and opportunities happen in the group and there is fantastic support from other partners including Kensington Methodist Church, Student Action for Refugees, CHATS and Granby Toxteth Development Trust.

At the moment the group doing textile banner making, health eating, yoga, and cookery. In addition, there is food, a children's space, practical and emotional support, informal counselling and therapeutic activities.

We will soon be starting our own herb garden. Great for the cooking team!

Lots of activities to come and more importantly the continuation of a safe and supportive space for women in need.

We are always looking for donations of clothes, toys, books, sewing machines and now gardening equipment. Please contact SOLA if you have any to give away.

Supporting people with Dementia through visual arts

Arts and Agency for elder people from the Liverpool African communities

SOLA is working with Liverpool African Elders Luncheon Club to deliver arts & crafts activities. These activities help memory recall, memory retention, motor-neuron skills, self-agency and empowerment, self-expression, a greater self-value, belonging and lots of laughter! This is a lovely group of people of around 14 with varying abilities and skills.

At the moment the group are using wire and acrylic resign, glass painting and multimedia to create 3D flower decorations.

We have been working with the group over the past 7 years and always enjoy every minute.
The project is funded by Liverpool City Council Grassroots Grants and further supported by Granby Toxteth Development Trust and Nigeria House. There are many local volunteers who are keenly helping out.

The project runs until the end of March for this stage.
