Women's Art Therapy Group full and moving on

Our new Art Therapy programme for women is now full and in the second week of 12-sessions due to complete in April 2014.

This very needed service is the second programme in our Art Therapy in the Community focus.

The first session was very beneficial for all clients and we envisage that the personal and group experience and journeys through the project will have a positive impact on all involved.

We have received referrals from all over Liverpool and more specifically specialist NHS and community mental health services.

This pilot has been funded by Liverpool Awesome Awards, Trafford Hall and LCVS.

New Art Therapy and arts engagement pilot

We are very excited about a new 6 month programme exploring the needs and delivery approach for Art Therapy and arts engagement activity for people with Dementia and their carers.

We have been granted funding by Awards for All (and are awaiting additional funding) for a feasibility and pilot programme to add to our 6+ years of delivery in this field.

This comes as part of SOLA's recent expansion as a specialist delivery service for both arts and Art Therapy.

We are looking forward to once again working with Granby Toxteth Development Trust for the first programme of activity with our long-term friends, Liverpool African Elder's Luncheon Club.

We are going to be busy running therapy interventions, arts activities and carrying out an online and face-to-face consultation and survey with local residents and service providers.

We will be delivering a dynamic range of engagement including individual and group Art Therapy sessions, community arts workshops and an event to highlight the benefits of Art Therapy and visual arts engagement for people with Dementia and their carers.

As part fo the project we will be working with people from across Liverpool and will be working with volunteers from the refugee and BME communities to skill up and enable the project the happen. So far volunteers come from Jamaica, Gambia, Venezuela and of course Liverpool. We are lucky to have such a great diversity of support, interest and backgrounds.

We are hoping to achieve funding through this pilot for a 2-3 year longer-term project.

More updates to follow!

Welcome new volunteer- Rima!

Our most recent volunteer Rima joined this week.

A practising and skilled artist from Liverpool and a very lovely and enthusiastic person who we are lucky to be supported by.

We are looking forward to working together and having Rima on the team for the journey...

Arts Drop-In

Our Arts Drop_in has been running for a few years now, supporting people most marginalised to come together to develop art skills and enjoy creativity.

This is a great way to meet new people and is in a small group environment in a safe and supportive space.

To group is open for people to be referred or drop-in on the day. Altohugh mainly accessed by people from refugee backgrounds, it is open to anyone interested in linking and sharing who also experiences social isolation or mental distress.

The group is overseen by an Art Psychotherapist and supported by SOLA volunteers.

The group has now moved to Tuesdays from 4-6. If you know anyone who might be interested, give us a call!
