Tuesday Art Group update

We've been running an Art Therapist and mentor supported Art Group on a Tuesday now for over a year and the group is gelling really well.

Debbie one of the core members of the gorup has been rolling out some fantastic work over the past few weeks. Here's a few more to be inspired by...

The new All in 1 Studio has almost arrived...

We are so nearly there in starting membership use and volunteering running of the new 'All in 1 Studio' at SOLA. This space is for like minded creative people mix refugee and non-refugee background, who have had experience of mental health difficulties or who are simply interested to be creative with others but find themselves socially isolated.

Fingers crossed we get some funds to keep this ace space alive!!!

Here's some volunteer thoughts of the studio so far;

SOLA's Art Psychotherapist presenting at Edge Hil University and FACT this month

Adele Spiers our Lead Art Psychotherapist has been busy this month delivering training and presentations at two conferences across Merseyside.

The first was at Edge Hill University at the beginning of the month at a Policy Event conference on the impact of visuals environment of Toxteth for the migrant community resident there. Adele presented about SOLA ARTS and explored questions and themes around mental health and wellbeing being of migrants and refugees resident in the Toxteth area and the impact that visual spaces have on this.

Last week only again Adele was invited to present at a FACT supportedconference on Trauma inspired by their recent exhibition by the digital artistKrysztof Wodiczko.
This was a moving conference with talks by military veterans, PhD researchers and artists working with the theme of trauma. Adele focused on thoughts and her professional experiences around Art Psychotherapy and Trauma support, particularly for people who are refugees.

A goodbye meal for Guin, our long term volunteer and mentor in the Tuesday Art Group

A final Tuesday Group (most of us anyhow) goodbye for Guin before she leaves for uni. We'll miss you!!!

Really sad to say goodbye but hoping Guin (far left) has great fun at uni to study Psychology- a subject which Guin has told us she has been working towards for the past 10 years since she was 12. Wowzers that's dedication!!! Good on you Guin...

Tate Visit with The Tuesday Art-Group

The Tuesday art group had a great visit to the Tate this Tuesday to see the Francis Bacon and Lassnig exhibitions. There was lots of discussion had about the work on display and how it made us feel and  what it reminded us of and of course hot chocky and a chat afterwards in the cafe! With thanks for the courtesy passes from the Tate

Poetry from Sefton Park

Quack -
I don't know what to say about the duck
he's sitting peacefully
in the cool murky water
the trees reflection,
hiding the blue of the water
there's a rock barrier
holding back the water
the algae floating by
the wild spiky grass
unkempt in the background

the green spongy grass feeling cool underfoot

A lovely poem created by one of our participants who was feeling inspired by a walk in Sefton Park. Photo by Kenneth.

ATIC in the attic!

SOLA ARTS recently acquired the keys to a whole new room in the upstairs of Toxteth Town Hall. Thanks to some wonderful donations of materials, furniture and more we have started working with some of our participants to develop the space into a creative studio space, to be ran by them as volunteers and open to all who want to drop in once a week and be creative

Here is some pictures of the space being organised and evolving into a great new space:

Tuesday Art Group Update

It has been awhile since we posted about the Tuesday Drop-In Art Group. Officially the group finished up at the end of July but thanks to the continuing support by now volunteers Guin and Joe the group continues to be an engaging, supportive network for all those who join us.

This week we had laughter and impromptu acapela and being creative and comparing stories of falls and clumsyness!

Above is a lovely, creative peacock piece by Debbie.
